— Former Customer
the black sun print was created to pay homage to the distinct style of African block printing.
We worked alongside Artisans in West Africa to hand-block art on locally grown Funtua Organic Cotton. The printed fabric is hand-dipped in natural indigo dye many times to achieve its rich Black color.
The fabric is then dried, folded and mallet beaten to soften. Each blanket of Black Sun is pressed, cut and sewn in New York City & Los Angeles.
Culture, Heritage & Protection
The Black Sun print symbolizes protection, craftsmanship and artistic identity.
We designed the cowrie shell print in Harlem, NY and worked with a group of artisans in Lagos, Nigeria to hand-weave, hand-dye & block print our original art onto their locally grown Funtua Cotton.
The result is a garment that carries both cultural heritage and everyday wearability.
